Hello everyone,
We wanted to share something new and exciting with our ACSD community.
The Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD) has recently completed a project focused on ASL animation for children’s programming. As part of this project, they created both an ASL animation example and a detailed guide that explains how to create ASL animation in a way that is clear, accurate, and respectful of Deaf culture.
Please see the 41-page PDF titled Pedagogical & Technical Guide: Accessible Sign Language Animation for Broadcast Television & Digital Media in the forwarded email below. The document includes full details, examples, and links to videos related to this project.
This guide is a valuable resource for educators, families, Deaf organizations, and anyone working in media, animation, or early learning. It covers topics such as ASL storytelling, best practices for recording signing for animation, and how to support Deaf children’s language development through accessible media.
This project was led by members of the Deaf community and supported through accessibility funding in Canada. It represents important progress in making children’s media more inclusive and accessible.
We encourage you to take some time to review the guide, watch the videos, and share this resource with others who may be interested.
On behalf of Brenda Hillcox, ACSD President: Thank you to CCSD, SLIC, and everyone involved for this great work.
Best regards,
Candace
ACSD Administrative Assistant
